The Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach and EXP were recognized by the Coast Guard’s Partnership in Education (PIE) program as the best collaborative partnership across the service for the 2016-2017 year. In that same year, 8,600 Coast Guard members and employees from 190 units dedicated 90,000 hours to the mentorship and development of more than 100,000 students through the PIE program.
EXP helps young people gain experience, unlock doors and build the confidence they need to succeed in school, career and life. In 2017-18, over 400 industry volunteers helped EXP serve 6,400 high school students at 11 Southern California high schools. By bringing schools and industry together, EXP is creating new ways of learning, knocking down barriers and bringing genuine opportunity to every student it can reach with career exploration, mentorship and internship programs. Founded in 1999, EXP (formerly ITEP - International Trade Education Programs) is a Carson-based 501(c)(3) non-profit operating throughout Southern California.
