January 2019 Newsletter
Look at how we’ve grown
2018 ended on a high note for EXP! Fueled by the energy of our new brand, our 2017-2018 programs were the most successful yet with the largest internship class, the biggest attendance at GPS Your Future to date and our budding partnerships in Orange County.
As we look toward 2019, the year presents many opportunities for growth and innovation, starting with Women in STEM Career Day and the 19th Annual Oceans of Opportunity Dinner and Scholarship Celebration.
We look forward to working with you to create exciting programs, expand to more schools in more communities and build new industry partnerships!

ETA: We just realized that Carson High School’s Environmental Science, Engineering, and Technology (ESET) Pathway is even more awesome than we reported earlier. It actually received GOLD Certification from the Linked Learning Alliance! And, even better, it is one of the first Gold Certified Pathways in LA County and will be recognized at the statewide Linked Learning Conference in March.
188: Our Largest Internship Class To Date
The EXP Internship Program: Powered by Prologis kicked off with a bang in September. We're in our last half of the preparation activities with 188 students well on their way to complete their year-long journey.
"I gained real life experiences and valuable professional skills through the EXP internship program," said Daisy J., EXP class of 2015. "I also discovered my passion which helped me choose pre-law pathway in college."
You can help influence the future of our largest internship class to date! We need internship hosts to unlock opportunities for these hard-working young people. You can make an impact in an EXP student’s future by providing experience to succeed in school, career and life through a part-time or full-time internship for six weeks, starting on Monday, June 24.
Unable to host? Be an internship sponsor and invest in tomorrow’s leaders and future workforce!
Please contact our program manager Megan Fowler for additional information and for an intern request form at email@example.com or (310) 562-9505.
Growing Roots in Orange County with #OCPowerUp
On December 7, we joined forces with Rancho Santiago Community College District and California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office (CCCCO) to bring together a lively group of engaged industry leaders, community college and high school educators to prepare for successful careers in the disruptive economy. Business, Entrepreneurship & Global Trade Power Up included networking, a panel discussion on disruption in global trade and entrepreneurship, keynote from Mario Cordero on the many opportunities available with the Port of Long Beach, and energetic talks on the gig economy, disruption in education and preparing students for the future of work.
Since 2017, we have successfully produced three OC Power Up events, connecting educators and entrepreneurs with the global trade industry. We also organized the first ever OC GPS Your Future career exploration event in Costa Mesa, serving students from nine local high schools and three community colleges.
We're looking forward to doing more in the OC in 2019!
Speakers Needed: Women in STEM on May 1
Calling all STEM professionals and companies! We are looking for speakers and hands-on demonstration for our Women in STEM Career Day on May 1 at CSU Long Beach. For more information, please contact our program manager Alejandra Garcia Rios at firstname.lastname@example.org or (562) 753-5366.
This unique career exploration day started out several years ago with just one school pathway as Women in Engineering Day. Thanks to generous support from Andeavor Foundation and The Boeing Company, we are expanding to more STEM fields and expecting over 250 students from EXP-supported schools at the May 2019 event. (Some spaces are available for guest high schools. Please contact Alejandra for details.)
Carson High School Earned Linked Learning Gold Certification
With EXP assistance, Carson High School’s Environmental Science, Engineering, and Technology (ESET) Pathway recently earned its Linked Learning Gold Pathway Certification, the highest-ranking of the certifications for pathways that combine academics, career education and real-world professionalism into one cohesive experience for their students.
Carson earns this coveted certification by developing its pathway beyond the core components of Linked Learning and provides impressive outcomes with students to prepare students for college, career and life.
We are proud to be their partner in excellence. Go ESET!
