STEM Squad, Assemble (Virtually)!

Nearly 350 high school young women participated in the EXP’s 6th annual Women in STEM Career Day virtual experience on Thursday, February 24, where 26 volunteers and 25 companies inspire them to explore careers in STEM.

The action-packed two-hour virtual event started with a keynote address by long-time EXP volunteer Chloe Gharios, P.E., aka “Chloe the Engineer.” Chloe is a registered professional civil engineer in LADWP and is passionate about breaking stereotypes of women in STEM. She works to do so on social media through her page @chloetheengineer.

Then the students chose their own next adventures. They could browse the virtual exhibit hall where 25 companies highlight their industries or participate in one of the eight live demonstrations, including an electric vehicle facility tour with FedEx and a VR application from LINXS.

Four breakout panels rounded out the career discovery experience. Industry professionals shared their stories and openly discussed with students about their career journeys in Energy and Utilities, Aerospace and Aviation, Sustainability and Environment, and Healthcare.
