EXP's Women in STEM Career Day is Now an Award-Winning Program!

INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine named EXP’s Women in STEM Career Day one of the 2023 Inspiring Programs in STEM Award winners in their September issue. (Page 55.) The magazine recognizes programs for their exemplary and innovative initiatives designed to recruit and retain underrepresented individuals in science, technology, engineering, and math.

INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine is the leader in advancing best practices in DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) in higher education, keeping readers informed and empower them to advance DEI initiatives at their institutions.

EXP’s Women in STEM Career Day started as a career panel at Carson High School in 2017 and has grown to include more students, activities, volunteers, and exhibitors. Our goal is to inspire and motivate young high school women to stay interested in STEM as a post-secondary education and career path so that they can succeed in school, career and life. We connect the dots between the classroom and real life by showing them career possibilities and connecting them with STEM professional role models.

The most recent event took place in February 2023 at Long Beach City College during one of the most intense Southern California rainstorms! 25 exhibitors and nearly 150 volunteers braved the elements to spend an inspiring day with more than 300 young women from 11 EXP-supported high schools.

99% of students surveyed will recommend this event to their friends. Many students commented that they would like to return next year and that this is one of their favorite EXP programs!
